After a few days we only wanted to share a few little activities we did this week since it was a short and busy few days.
First, we decided to use this week to "build" on our students letter/word reading and writing abilities with Lego and by beginning our very own story book (give us some time to finish and it will be made available to all). Below are sneak peaks of the inspirations for our amazing book (already in the works) and how we used fun Lego to build on our letters and words.
The BLUE JAYS have also been inspiring our young writers!!!! Go JAYS GO!!
We continue to encourage all of you to continue to work on letter recognition and letter sound knowledge at home. Whether it be through fun guessing games, fun dollar store activities or through outdoor play with natural materials. The more we work on it together as a team of parents and teachers the more ready the students will be in the future. We had one student this week inspired to write to his new Baby sister that was born! Congratulations!!
Last week on our nature walk we collected pine cones which the students were super duper excited about! Below you will see what they decided to create with materials that we found and provided! We have some very creative minds all currently with Halloween on their minds. All pine cones were completely student ideas.
Have your children sang songs while hand washing? We had visitors from Sheridan College at our school this week telling us all about germs. We used special potion and a magic lamp to see what germs we have on our hands and than the girls high fived the boys to see how germs spread. A great mini lesson for some quick hand washers who now slow down a little and scrub.
Mrs. Stula is our amazing planning time coverage teacher who on Thursday's plans fun movement activities for us in the library!! Here we see Mrs. Stula and the monkey doodles dancing their hearts out!!!
One of the grade 8 teachers this week asked if once a week we could have reading buddies with her class. For 20 minutes every week we will be meeting our friends who will expose our students to great new books and help us appreciate and love reading all while working on listening and comprehension skills. We started today and our students loved it. Thank you to Madame Richards for such a great suggestion.
We still have one day to go this week so we may further update this blog later but for now we hope you enjoyed it.
Thank you again for all your support and kindness and for allowing your children to use so much of what they learn here at home and with that said...more prayer rock love! GOODNIGHT!
Great pictures of the class...love the Prayer Rocks...
