FALL EXPLORERS

Our fall walk was a fantastic way to spark inquiry about nature and fall changes to our surroundings. It also allowed for us to experience Gods creation with all our senses.
We loved exploring leaves and their colours/shapes.
The above are only some of the amazing leaves we found. We brought a bag full of them to our classroom to explore.
We investigated our leaves, talked about them, and recreated our walk through the forest through writing and drawing.
During our walk we also saw a huge machine. Our students loved using inferencing skills to look at the surroundings and try to guess what it was there for. Ask your child what their ideas were!
Some of us used our problem solving skills to try to figure out how to cross the river without the bridge. The class cheered us on and we did our best. We got a little wet and dirty BUT with our teachers help we conquered it.
This was a great activity to teach us about taking turns, motivating our friends, and working together to solve a problem.

One of our students ran into a hidden area and found something really neat...can you guess what it is we all got excited about?
A SLUG was hiding under a big log.
It was a really neat coincidence that one of our students also brought a book that taught us more about slugs when we returned to school.
There was also a creepy bug hiding under this log...can you guess what it was?
Someone thought they found a fossil. We discussed what we think a fossil is. We decided maybe this isn't a fossil but a piece of strong rock with patterns on it from creatures in the forest.
When back in the classroom we looked at some macro photos from our walk and played a guessing game to try to figure out what each item was.
We even noticed things in our photos like stick bugs that weren't seen until we saw the close up on the screen in our classroom.

Our leaves later inspired some Thanksgiving Turkey art. Take a look at what we came up with!
Finally, we all love a little down time and it melts our hearts to see our friends exploring books.
Sometimes we read on iPads too.
We also used rocks as a math/writing activity. It sure was ALOT of fun to try to stack rocks and see how tall they can get.

Apples continue to inspire us inside and outside of the classroom! Counting can be fun.
