Our first few days...

We were in the process of obtaining everyone's permission forms for photos and we are all done soooo time for our first blog post of the year!
Our students have been having a lot of fun getting to know one another and the transition has been quite smooth. We are so excited about this year!
Little reminders:
-Always send back Mr. Zippy even if empty.
-Packing extra snacks helps. Even if they aren't finished at least your child has options and won't be hungry. Maybe try sending in three snacks instead of two or even four smaller ones.
-We are in need of book donations and tissue boxes.
All year one parents received little hand prints of Kinder hands. We had so much fun painting ourselves and getting a little messy. We have also begun to learn to write our names and place hand prints on our classroom windows so take a look when you get a chance.
These first few days we have been focusing on learning our names and practicing writing them and wow our new students sure are impressing us! Chalk has been a hit!
Some of our year two students have been practicing sight words too! Others have used the magnetic letters to try to figure out letter formations and match them to their names. Really neat to see thinking in action.
We starting prepping for our Reggio inspired classroom calendar and we made our own month tags. We also read a story in small groups explaining what months are with our year two students.
We will have the coolest calendar ever!
Our monkeys have also been very eager to get started on writing in their special journal books and using our new writing area. Last week we used animal picture cards to inspire some beautiful drawings. While writing we often focus on sounds and letters.
Crayons were used as a fun sensory and social activity. We used water to try to loosen the wrappers and make some of our older crayons more usable. The students LOVED playing with the water and taking the wrappers off while chatting on their first day. Next step will be sorting and counting the crayons as a math activity.
Chalk continued to be a hit outside we have used it to explore letters, words, names, and make shapes. Some of us even decided to make a track to race on. This was a blast and even the teachers worked out on it.
Inside play dough has been a nice gathering area where students have been able to meet and socialize. We have seen plenty of creativity here! Play dough club will begin soon. We will keep you posted.
We also have many builders who have enjoyed exploring the wide variety of blocks and tubes we have.
We also met out PTM music teacher and she has been introducing us to new and fun instruments.

We learned what it means to be different and we are reflecting on our differences in conversations and through art by drawing pictures of ourselves. God created each of us in our own special ways and it is important we talk about all those things that make us special. We read a favourite book (pictured below) ask your child what the story was about.
We hope everyone has had many positive memories flood home from their children the first few days! We are very blessed with such amazing little minds in our room. You are all wonderful and thank you for your support this far!
Thank you for some of our first day of school photos!
Some other things we have done so far these last few days:
-ice breaker games with a ball
-toured our school
-learned a days of the week song (a student actually initiated this and taught it to us)
-made a home-school connection when one student shared their dance recital clip and taught us all to dance
-used rocks outside to make shapes
-used rocks to make letters
-explore logs and built camp fires and see saws

All this in just three days!
