We came across a piano in our school and we had it brought to our classroom. We all learned together (we labeled the piano and used our iPads to help guide us). Even the teachers learned! What great fun we had. An amazing way to learn to recognize letters and learn to collaborate together. It just so happened that one of our students had his birthday so we learned to play "Happy Birthday".
A few of our determined friends performed the song to the class. It's always a pleasure to inspire new ways of learning in our students. Music is a great way to connect and create together.
We noticed that cars are constantly moving about in our classroom. So, we grabbed some dice, some paper, some cars and markers and away we went. We made a fun racing game which uses toys we like but also requires collaborative play and counting.
We noticed that some of our students LOVE using puzzles and solving problems. We brought out something that was donated to us from one of our families after the Christmas Break. It's a puzzle that has really brought out some creativity and problem solving skills. These are tricky to use but soooo much learning happens when new creations are in the works.
The pieces can be turned into anything the students would like. So far we have had volcanoes, race cars, mini houses and flippers. These are made out of a harder paper so being careful, planning and taking your time is important.
We read a wonderful story that would spark creativity and problem solving with the use of ONE shape-A Square!
Ask you children about this amazing book. It is a beautiful short story about how a square can be transformed into many different things. It sparked the interest of some of our artists and they decided to work with one square and challenge themselves to change their square into something new. Take a look at some of our ideas. It's also taught us that we can transform into anything we want.
The above is a child's view of Ancient Egypt and the Sphinx (labeled to help you see the vision). Seeing the world through a child's eyes is always amazing.
We hope you enjoyed this quick glimpse into our few days back after a long weekend. Enjoy this beautiful weather.
