A quick post long weekend update.

We came across a piano in our school and we had it brought to our classroom. We all learned together (we labeled the piano and used our iPads to help guide us). Even the teachers learned! What great fun we had. An amazing way to learn to recognize letters and learn to collaborate together. It just so happened that one of our students had his birthday so we learned to play "Happy Birthday".
A few of our determined friends performed the song to the class. It's always a pleasure to inspire new ways of learning in our students. Music is a great way to connect and create together.
We noticed that cars are constantly moving about in our classroom. So, we grabbed some dice, some paper, some cars and markers and away we went. We made a fun racing game which uses toys we like but also requires collaborative play and counting.
We noticed that some of our students LOVE using puzzles and solving problems. We brought out something that was donated to us from one of our families after the Christmas Break. It's a puzzle that has really brought out some creativity and problem solving skills. These are tricky to use but soooo much learning happens when new creations are in the works.
The pieces can be turned into anything the students would like. So far we have had volcanoes, race cars, mini houses and flippers. These are made out of a harder paper so being careful, planning and taking your time is important.
We read a wonderful story that would spark creativity and problem solving with the use of ONE shape-A Square!

Ask you children about this amazing book. It is a beautiful short story about how a square can be transformed into many different things. It sparked the interest of some of our artists and they decided to work with one square and challenge themselves to change their square into something new. Take a look at some of our ideas. It's also taught us that we can transform into anything we want.

The above is a child's view of Ancient Egypt and the Sphinx (labeled to help you see the vision). Seeing the world through a child's eyes is always amazing.

We hope you enjoyed this quick glimpse into our few days back after a long weekend. Enjoy this beautiful weather.

100th Day of School

We dressed up as if we were 100, we changed our look via technology to look 100, we read books about 100 and we shared our 100 items. Check out our fun day!
Today we are "100 Days Smarter"
Some of the fun books we read today are above. Ask your children about the books.
We also did a 100th day workout!

Some of our 100 items:
We used the number 100 to make creative pictures. We made pandas, NexoKnights and other fun things. Can you guess what we made?
We had many great 100 year old costumes come in today. Great creativity everyone. Even one friend who was sick at home joined in on the fun.
Some of us checked out what we would look like in 100 years.
We wrote about being 100. Wow we really did get many wrinkles.

Our board outside of our classroom was used to display all our work from today (still a work in progress).

Hope you enjoyed our update! Don't forget tomorrow no treats in Valentines (no food treats).
Thank you!
Tomorrow is also FORMAL day for the dance and student council is asking each student bring 1-2 dollars for the dance and to dress up fancy.

Valentines Day is coming!

Our fun MATH area inspired: number making, number matching, exploring quantity, adding and patterning (everyone's fave).
"I made a 2 and a 1"
"I found 8 hearts!"
"I made a pattern"
Teacher: "Can you make a more challenging pattern?"
"I did it look: Big. Small. Smaller."
"The big numbers are harder and 2 is easy peezy"
"My guess is 30 gems will fit into the heart let's count to check"
We learned about the letter V, it's sound, and that V is for Valentine and came up with many new words we knew for the letter V. Thank you for sharing all your words.
The V letter activity was a hit!
Later some of us got creative with making what we like to call Love Bugs or Creatures-students named them all kinds of names.
Using our gems to practice some letters.
We went on a heart hunt under our chairs, looked for hearts, sorted them, counted them and we checked which there were more/less of. We also got creative and made the numbers with festive pipe cleaners! Less than one week to go!! Hope your Valentine boxes are almost done!!!! Start sending them in.
We shared our love of making books with Ms. Hinton.
We also learned about how Martin Luther King Jr spread love and peace.
We made a beautiful poster to display to share his love with our school.
Some of us went on a matching word hunt. We loved learning new words and matching them up.
We began working on something special too but we will keep that a little Valentine's Day secret ❤️❤️❤️!
Again just a reminder-Make sure you finish your boxes for Tuesday.
