Busy little monkey doodles

During lent always remember...PRAY and think of Jesus as this student reminds us with his creation...

It's been a busy and fun week BUT we missed so many students this week due to sicknesses. We sure hope everyone is one hundred percent healthy soon. Thank you to the parents who have helped kick start our Rockin' Readers Program and thank you for the play dough donations!! We would also like to thank everyone for making time to meet with us today and we really loved seeing each and every one of you.

Words words words...
Our students absolutely love making words, finding words and exploring new words. Even in the library they surprised us by starting their own word hunt activity in library books!
Making words with found materials and than working on letter sounds.
Making new words and trying to read them with our clothes pins.
Look it says "she".
I wrote the word "sat" by accident while making the baptism of Jesus with Lego.
Below is the students write up of the Baptism.

Making make up kits and using words and letters to label them to make them our own special kits. We are also using shapes we know.
Being super creative with our linking cubes...
"Mrs. Latus we can measure the roll with these cubes let's count how tall it is"
Can you guess what I made?
"I can measure the teddy bin"
"I can make letters with my fingers look I made a T"
Working on writing about our measurement hunt.
Measurement inquiry continues...next step will be using these bodies of ours to measure big areas!!

We also used items and traced our feet to work on measurement.
Welcome back Ms. Hinton we missed you!
Some of our pink day participants. Let's wear pink to show we don't like bullying! We also watched a great Charlie Brown video about a boy that bullied...ask your children about it.

Have a great weekend everyone!!

We love computers and writing!! Let's not forget learning to measure!

We are creative with technology! Check out our cool pictures that inspired some writing.
Our little monkeys decided to create some neat pictures in the computer lab and than we used some words to write about them! Great ideas are flowing!! We have such fantastic learners and we are so proud of them!
We brain stormed what we could use to measure various items in our classroom. We learned about non-standard units of measurement and two rules to follow when using them. 1. Items should be the same size and shape and 2. Items should be placed right beside one another. Below you will see some great ideas we had on our measurement hunt!

"My arm is four big blocks long."
"Both our heads are ten links around them." "They are the same."
"This chair is 7 blocks tall."
"We are using the shells to measure how long the shelf is."
"The C paper is 4 shells tall."
"I used cubes to see how tall your chair is."
"We used circles to measure around the block."
"We used bears and tiles to see how long the table is."
"I measured the board."

Just a few more...

One student also came up with the idea to use numbers and a letter today to make a mini statement! Cool idea huh...can you guess what is says?
"Look I wrote eight crosses...you can use other things to write and show ideas and use letters and numbers."

There was also a group of students working on making a ramp for their cars. We tried three ways of making ramps and problem solved together to try to make the one that would make the cars go the farthest over the other areas they built. It was a lot of fun!

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Just a quick little one...

Nice to be back with all the munchkins as a team again! Ms. Flor and Mrs. Latus are so happy to be together with all the little monkey doodles again. Our Rockin' Readers program is up and we are so excited about how well we are all learning to read! Some students went home with books today and you are encouraged to read those books over as long as you wish. Some volunteers have already been informed about what days we will need their help with this great program. We got some cool new books too!
Today we decided to talk about measurement and started off nice and slow with big and small comparisons. We read a cute little book today "I'm the biggest thing in the ocean" to spark some ideas. We brainstormed before the book about big and small creatures in the ocean and our students were excited to see their ideas pop up in the story. Below is a link to the video version of the story.

Thank you for all the magazine donations to help out with our activity!! We LOVE glueing and pasting fun.

Our students are fascinated by their ability to read and write and get so excited to share words they already know! All parents over the next week will be getting updates via Remind on their child's literacy progress. Some already have and some will receive their updates soon! Keep an eye out for the attachments.
PS some of these photos get posted daily on Twitter! Don't forget to check Twitter too! Below is the link...you do not need a Twitter account to enjoy these daily photos so remember to enjoy both! As the weeks go on the blog will vary in photos from Twitter more and more so make sure you pop by both to get the full scoop!!! We thank you for your support!!

It's great to be back!!
Enjoy your evening and another update by the end of the week will follow.

Some snow fun...just because snow rocks!

We love learning new words inspired by our book mentioned yesterday in the blog...
