5 days of school left!

We have been soooooo BUSY!! Mostly with Christmas excitement looming and Christmas concert practice. We sure hope no one freezes up on stage next week. So between Christmas excitement and dancing we have to admit not much time was spent on picture taking. We are sorry that this blog may be a little on the short side.

Important Info:
-A message was sent saying concert is Wednesday at 9:30 and at 1pm. We hope to see you there.
-Red and green day and shopping spree are on Tuesday the 15th!

Now for our short but sweet blog...
Some of our students this week decided that they wanted to try to use the boxes and cardboard in our class to create new robot outfits.
We also had a lot of fun decorating our classroom with wintery additions. Creating gingerbread men and super cute snowflakes was a class favourite.
We also read a wonderful story about the candy cane (The Legend of the Candy Cane). This story connected perfectly to learning more about Jesus and the staff that the Shepards used when they visited Jesus. Ask your children about the shape of the famous candy and about the colours and what they mean. We made beautiful candy canes some with our favourite math embedded into the craft. Patterns were used can you see them?
Some of our students continue to really enjoy using the magnetic board to practise letter recognition.
By far the most FUN part of the week was making neat gingerbread houses and rocking horses with our really cool and fun grade 8 friends!!

Let's enjoy these last few days of school before the break!! Have a wonderful weekend.

December has arrived

Well we are in December!
DRESS WARM JUST LIKE THE CUTIE IN OUR BACKGROUND PICTURE!!

So much going on over the next few weeks. Going to try to keep this as short as possible ha! Hopefully you enjoy the little update.
First of all thank you for joining in and supporting the leafs love lol minus our one little rebel-but she did show Kadri some sweet hugs later so maybe a little conversion?
PS Kadri liked our picture!!

Our students really loved trying to recreate animal pictures and later tried to practice their writing skills on some of their interpretations to explain which photo they recreated.
We spoke about Advent and what it means with our students and we also have been slowly introducing the nativity scene. So far we learned that Mother Mary was told by an angel that she would have a baby. She wasn't sure how Joseph would feel about that but he was accepting and together they ventured to Bethlehem. An inn keeper allowed them to stay in their stable after many people said there was no room at their inns.
Below are some of our predictions before we spoke of what the little house is and our current stable. Thank you to a family in our class that provided us with this kid friendly cute stable a few months back! We love it!
We made advent wreaths too!
Last week you saw one of our students showed interest in the Garden of Eden story and this sparked interest in the story of creation in the first testament. Below is an example of a sequencing activity we did in order to learn about placing parts of a story in the correct order. It also helped us to learn our numbers 1-7 and with printing.
Another way that writing was incorporated this week was through Santa letters. Rosie our elf asked us to write them and our reading buddies did an amazing job guiding us in our writing.

Another fun activity was visiting our Cert room to find a new frog and fish friend that are visiting our school.
We learned about what the frog eats (super worms and crickets) and that he sleeps most of the day away.
We also continue to explore letters, words and numbers with all the bottle caps you provided us with. Definitely a student favorite!
Some of our little builders have decided to build their own version of a stable.
Finally, a few of our friend Rosie causing trouble in our classroom.

It's almost December!!

We have had a few very exciting days here in Kinderland. First of all we received our Smartboard!!! It has been introduced and we used it to learn more about measurement and patterning in our first few lessons and as a center. The students LOVE this fun new tool for learning. Take a look...
This great new tool in our class made everyone super duper thrilled to try new math concepts and we hope that we can continue to ignite their learning fires with this cool new piece of technology.

Mrs. Koritko came to see us and she had a special deliver from the  NORTH POLE for our class!!!!!!! There was a present and a note and everyone was sooooo excited!!
She handed the gift over to us and we read the note which was actually from an ELF named Rosie.
The gift turned out to be a book and we read all about the elf and her little secrets! Now we needed to decorate our class to prepare it so that Rosie comes and visits us. First we needed a tree...

Some of our builders were challenged to begin working on structures with just cardboard and tape: we had some very hard workers the past two days and the team work has been amazing. These will later be used to learn more about measurement.
We also continue to use manipulatives to further our knowledge on numbers, letters and words.
Some of our patterns made last week which we missed on last blog post:
We also had some students choose their angels from the tree to help those in need.
We had our Rosary friend come
by to visit and she taught us so much! We love praying with her and she was VERY kind to us and gave us some fantastic items that we cannot wait to be creative with! She truly is so incredibly welcomed in our class!
After talking about the miracle of Jesus at a wedding feast and changing water to wine one of our students later started telling us about reading a story from the Bible with her mom. It was the story of the garden of Eden. She told us that God created a beautiful garden for all the animals nature he created. It was a peaceful garden and the most beautiful place ever. She than told us about Adam and Eve and how they ate from the tree. We decided to learn more about this garden by using our imaginations and recreating it and later reading the story from the Bible and using a visual story on our smart board. We also learned about how it took God 7 days to create the world and each day a new piece of our amazing world was created. This will lead to new sequencing activities next week.
The start to our 3D Garden of Eden...
Due to a Smartboard lesson about using various items to measure. Our students decided to try using different materials to measure objects in the classroom. We had some really hard workers and many great ideas which you will see below. We looked at length, width and we even explored how to measure all around an object. Of course they were even cuter to show they could pattern while measuring!
We have many creative minds!
Hope you enjoyed this weeks blog!!

December is coming so dress warm!!
P.S our Christmas concert date is at 1pm on December 16th. Hope to see you all there!
